The U. S. Embassy in Rome and the Consulates in Italy are a resource open and available to all U. S. citizens and visitors.

For those U. S. citizens living in Italy, it is suggested that in the event of emergency either locally in Italy or a family member back in the States, that you should register at the Embassy or at one of the Consulates. One does not have to do it but you never know when you will need the assistance of the U. S. Government. The Office of American Citizens Services and Crisis Management (ACS) exists to serve Americans traveling or residing abroad. There has been a name change on the Rome Embassy web site. ACS is now called U. S. Citizen Services.
